If you read this blog and follow craiganderson on Twitter (which, as far as I can think, would be zero of my nearest and dearest), you would’ve noticed that I’ve recently flip-flopped on my “I quit” message. The reason is two-fold:
I noticed that I was missing out on a lot of office banter. Being that guy constantly saying “Huh? What are you guys on about?!” isn’t that much fun.
Following somebody on Twitter isn’t, as I’d previously thought, the equivalent of subscribing to a web feed.
Before rejoining Twitter, I had over 600 unread articles in my web feed reader, the majority of which I’m probably not interested in. Most of these unread articles were from sites I’ve only got a passing interest in; occasionally they’ll publish something I’m very interested in reading, but most of the time I’ll pass it by.
My web feed reader isn’t ideal for parsing those lists. It forces me to acknowledge every single article—a chore I’ve obviously neglected.
Watching a Twitter feed is different. You’re not forced to acknowledge every single message, so it’s a cinch to quickly parse a list and decide whether there’s anything there for you or not.
So now I’m sifting through the web feeds I’ve subscribed to, deciding which I’m going to stay subscribed to and which I’m going to delete and find a Twitter equivalent of.

By day, he works for ABC TV as a web developer. By night, he plays bass guitar in Look Who's Toxic. He also runs a little Unix Timestamp conversion site. There are plenty of other things he should be doing, but most of the time he's dreaming of what he'll do when he grows up while watching bad Star Trek spin-offs.
