If you’re having trouble with clock drift under Ubuntu in a VMware Fusion virtual machine, give this a go.
In /boot/grub/menu.lst, find the following line toward the bottom:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7-server root=UUID=[…] ro quiet splash
Add clocksource=acpi_pm to the end, like so:
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.27-7[…] ro quiet splash clocksource=acpi_pm
After you reboot your virtual machine your clock should be fine, but you really should take a snapshot of your virtual machine before doing this just in case.

By day, he works for ABC TV as a web developer. By night, he plays bass guitar in Look Who's Toxic. He also runs a little Unix Timestamp conversion site. There are plenty of other things he should be doing, but most of the time he's dreaming of what he'll do when he grows up while watching bad Star Trek spin-offs.
